HAWKS FALL TO ARCH RIVAL PG 1-0

September 26 -  On a beautiful fall afternoon with the temperature in the mid 80's, 50 fans were treated to an outstanding soccer match between long time rivals Prince George's and the College of Southern Maryland.  PG's Teodore Ramierz's goal with 33:30 left in the first half proved to be the winner as the Owls came away with a 1-0 victory.  Ramierz had recieved a pass from Juio Rodreguez and eluded charging CSM goalie Austin Flowers for the games only goal.

Prince George's (6-2, 5-0) had the best scoring chances in the first half.  Early in the game, goalkeeper Austin Flowers had to leave the net and make a diving stop on a PG breakaway.  In the final 12:00 of the half PG had two more excellent chances.  Ricardo Givens' shot from the right side went just wide, and another PG shot deflected off a CSM defender and hit the post as the Owls outshot the Hawks 6-3.

The second half was a different story, as CSM's conditioning allowed them do dominate much of the half, and outshoot PG by a wide margin.  Despite many chances, the Hawks couldn't get the equalizer.

The Hawks best chances came late in the second half.  With 25:00 Scott Raley found himself with the ball in front of the goal after a CSM throw-in.  His shot to the lower right hand corner seemed destined to find net but PG goalkeeper Garrett Lyon made a diving stop.  Raley had another excellent chance earlier, but his shot from just outside the penalty box on a free kick went just wide.

With 7:00 left Gene Barrett made a superb shot towards the right corner of the net only to be foiled by another diving stop by Lyon.  With 1:00 left, after a wild scramble in front of the PG net, Brandon Cantena's bicycle kick in a crowd went just over the top of the net.

After the game, injured players from both teams limped through the line while the teams shook hands, as the two rivals paid their respects for a well played game.

The loss drops CSM to 4-3, and 4-2 in the conference.  The Hawks will play at home twice next week, at 3:30 on October 1 against Harford, and at 2:00 on Saturday against Allegany on Harvest Homecoming.
