HAWKS EXTINGUISH DRAGONS FIRE October 13, 2004 - Leading by only a goal at halftime (1-0), the CSM men's soccer team exploded for six goals in the second half on the way to a 7-2 victory over Howard. Jusifu Barclay netted a hat trick along with an assist, Joe Pancotti added two goals and an assist, Tony McAloon had two assists, Fabio Walters and Alie Kemain both had goals, and Kevin Mayo and Chad Johnson had assists to pace the Hawks. The first half was tight, with Howard (3-8-1, 2-5-1) having the best chances early. Randy Collins shot high over goal after receiving the ball out front early in the game, and Ahmad Hady had a dangerous centering pass that CSM goalie Ben Chase dove on. Later Hady had a strong shot on goal after a scramble in front, but again Chase was equal to the task, making the stop on the point blank shot. With 10:30 left in the first half, the Hawks broke in front on Joe Pancotti's first goal. Pancotti received the pass from Tony McAloon and broke in on the right side, beating goalie Jason Forbes to the top right corner to give CSM a 1-0 lead. The Hawks had several chances to extend the lead as Jusifu Barclay broke in alone, but his shot was knocked away by Forbes. Minutes later Joe Pancotti shot a rocket that hit the top post, and CSM had to settle for a 1-0 lead at halftime. CSM (9-4, 7-1) dominated the early going in the second half. Five minutes into the second half, Joe Pancotti netted his second goal with Tony Mcaloon again getting the assist to put the Hawks up 2-0. Two and a half minutes later, Jusifu Barclay netted his first goal after receiving a feed from Pancotti to give CSM a 3-0 lead. Iploite Ali put the Dragons on the board as he broke in alone with 25:42 left, beating goalkeeper Ben Chase to cut the margin to 3-1. It took the Hawks less then two minutes to get the goal back, as Kevin Mayo fed Fabio Walters who found net and gave the Hawks a three goal lead again at 4-1. After Walter's goal, Howard regrouped and pressured the Hawks for the next eight minutes. The Dragons had five quality chances, the best being a blast off the post by Mohsen Mahommedi. The Dragons were unable to find net however, and the score remained 4-1. Ali Kemain's goal on a feed from Barclay gave CSM a 5-1 lead and allowed the Hawks to regain control of the game. Barclay chipped one over the wall on a free kick to extend the CSM lead to 6-1, and Barclay completed the scoring for CSM when he received a pass from Chad Johnson, broke down the right side, and lofted the ball over the charging goalie to give CSM a 7-1 lead. With five minutes left in the game, Randy Collins goal for Howard completed the scoring. The Hawks will have the weekend off, before traveling to Potomac State on Monday. |
