KNIGHTS GROUND HAWKS September 14, 2004 - Montgomery - Rockville scored 2 goals within a minute in the second half to come away with a 2-0 victory in a men's soccer match held at CSM. After Maurwyn Bowen shot one off the top goal post, Darlington Davies put the rebound in during the scramble in front of the goal to give Rockville a 1-0 lead with 28:00 left in the second half. The Knights (6-1) attack was all or nothing, as they continually chipped the ball ahead, as they looked for breakaways or man advantage attacks, but they were also called for numerous off sides. However one of their attacks worked just a minute later, as Bowen broke free down the left side and just slide the ball past diving CSM goalie Ben Chase, who had come out of the net to cut down the angle. As a light rain turned into a brief downpour, CSM (1-2, 1-1) fought to get back into the game. The Hawks best chance came with 15:00 left, when David Yates barely missed off a corner kick, shooting just wide past a diving Rockville goalkeeper. The first half was very even, as would be expected between two of the top teams in MDJUCO. Each team had seven shots on goal, with CSM's Ben Chase recording four saves, and Rockville's David Hernandez turning away six shots. CSM will continue conference play when they host Cecil on Thursday at 3:30 PM, and then travel to Anne Arundel for a 7:00 PM game on Saturday. |
