#14 RANKED HAWKS DOWN HARFORD

September 10, 2007 - On a hot muggy afternoon, the #14 ranked CSM men's soccer team defeated Harford 5-3 to remain undefeated in MDJUCO play.

The Hawks were as hot as the 90 degree temperature, as they scored two goals in :30 seconds to open up a 2-0 lead.  Jason McCann centered a nice corner kick to Brandon Evans, who found net for the first Hawk goal.  Brandon Gross scored the second CSM goal off a nice feed from Marco Gaudio, to put the Hawks up 2-0 with 35:30 left in the first half.

Harford battled back, scoring the next two goals to knot the game at 2-2.  Harford's Curtis Ballard hit a high arching shot over the outstretched arms of CSM goalie Bobby Slatner to cut the lead to 2-1 with 23:19 to play in the half.  Five minutes later, Laudrim Shabani sent a crossing pass to Kyle Hughes, who tied the game at 2-2 with 17:36 left in the half.

Brandon Gross regained the lead for the Hawks, as he dribbled through the Owl defense and beat Harford goalkeeper KC McGinty with 10:29 remaining in the half.  Guil Costa scored the final goal of the first half, scoring on a free kick with 3:49 left, giving CSM a 4-2 lead at the break.

CSM dominated play for much of the second half, and outshot Harford 16-10 for the game.  The Hawks took a 5-2 lead early in the second half as Brandon Gross fed Marco Gaudio, who found the back of the Harford net.

With the game slipping away, Harford (1-2, 0-2) mounted one final charge, pressing the attack in the Hawks end for the final 15:00.  CJ Murray scored on a rebound after Hawks goalkeeper Bobby Slatter made a diving save but was unable to control the rebound, to cut the CSM lead to 5-3 with 14:19 to play.  That proved to be the final goal of the game, as the Hawks defense was able to keep Harford at bay the rest of the game.

The Hawks improve to 3-2, 3-0 in MDJUCO play.  The team travels to Cecil on Tuesday, before returning home to play Anne Arundel on Fall Festival, Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 PM.
