HAWKS DEFEAT TAKOMA PARK

October 11, 2007 - The CSM men's soccer team defeated Takoma Park 5-2 for their 7th win in a row.  The team is now 12-3 overall, and 10-1 in MDJUCO.  Brandon Gross led the way with 3 goals and Marco Gaudio and Chris Reulet had one each.  Guil Costa had two assists for the Hawks, with Brandon Evans, Jason McCann, and Gaudio having one each.

The weather was cloudy, breezy and cool after several days of unusually warm weather.

Takoma Park (6-6, 6-5) scored just five minutes into the game on a perfect shot by John Mendi, who arched the ball over the outstretched arms of CSM goalkeeper John Mueller from 30 yards out.

The scored remained 1-0 until the 18:32 mark, when Brandon Gross scored the first of his three goals.  Brandon Evans chipped the ball into the Takoma Park end of the field and Gross outraced Falcon keeper Irvin Bonille to score, tying the game at 1-1.

Gross put the Hawks ahead 2-1 with a perfect arching shot into the right corner of the net after receiving a cross from Marco Gaudio, with 10:15 left in the first half.

With 7:21 left Gross completed the hat trick, putting CSM up 3-1 after receiving a feed from Guil Costa.

With 6:38 left in the half, Takoma Park's Ruben Chavis received a red card, forcing the Falcons to play shorthanded the rest of the game.

The Hawks were able to control play most of the second half, and outshot the Falcons 17-7 for the game.

Marco Gaudio stretched the lead to 4-1 with 41:14 left in the second half, scoring off a throw in from Jason McCann.

Eric Kreme provided some offense for Takoma Park, as he dribbled through the Hawk defense to score with 22:54 remaining in the game, to cut the Hawk lead to 4-2.  Moments earlier Hawk goalie John Mueller had robbed Kreme of another goal with a leaping save to knock the ball away.

Chris Reulet scored the final goal for the Hawks, finding net after Guil Costa's corner kick with 19:45 to play, for the final 5-2 margin.

CSM will host #6 Louisburg on Saturday at 1:00 PM, before traveling to Hagerstown Oct. 17 for their final regular season game.
