CSM ATHLETES MOVE ON TO COMPETE AT FOUR
YEAR SCHOOLS
July 28, 2010 -
One of the goals of many athletes who come to the College of
Southern Maryland is to continue their playing career at a four year school.
This year nine former Hawks will move on to play at four year schools.
Ashley Wolfe, Gary Carr, Marco Gaudio, Rachael Shapelow, Kelsey Worrill, Kim
Leatherman, Megan Sturman, James Newsome, and JB Sapienza will all be continuing
their collegiate playing careers next season.

2010 SPRING BANQUET

The College of Southern Maryland hosted their annual Spring
Athletic Banquet on May 5, 2010 at the Jaycee Center in Waldorf, Md.
The annual banquet serves as an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments
of all of the athletes and coaches for the past academic year.
Several major awards were presented:
Male Athlete of the Year - James Newsome
(Baseball)
As a member of the baseball team, James batted .350. with 16 doubles, 4
triples, 6 homeruns, and 60 RBI's. He excelled in the classroom as
well, and his GPA was second only to the Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Female Athlete of the Year - Ashley Wolfe
(Volleyball)
Ashley excelled both on and off the court. Her statistics on the
volleyball court were impressive, as she was 6th in the conference in
blocks, and 8th in the nation in hitting efficiency (44 %). She was
1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All Region, and Honorable Mention All
American. Despite a torn ACL, she led the team to the Region
Championship game. Her GPA was 3.16, and she is listed in Who's Who
Among College Students.
Wings of the Hawk - Ron Mann (Compliance
Officer)
With the athletic department short staffed, Ron stepped up to help out,
going well beyond his normal duties. He volunteered to run the
scoreboard at all home basketball games, as well as serve as Athletic
Administrator at many home events, ensuring there would be an administrator
at all games.
Scholar Athlete of the Year - Nicole Ladue
(Women's soccer)
Nicole was a hard worker both on and off the
field. She played defensive midfield for the women's soccer team, and
although her primary role was defense, she scored 4 goals (3 game winners),
and had 2 assists. Her GPA was an outstanding 3.757.
Hall of Fame - Jerry Michael - Baseball
1972-73
Jerry's pitching record over his two year career as a member of the CSM
baseball team was 12-3. He was Pitching MVP in 1972-73, and led the
Hawks to two Region XX Championships. He was Second Team All MDJUCO in
both 1972 and 1973.
2008-09 Sportsmanship Award -
Award given annually by a vote of Athletic Directors to the school that
displays the most sportsmanship in hosting events.

SOFTBALL TEAM CONTINUES HOT STREAK WITH
SWEEP OF RAPPAHANNOCK
April
20, 2010 - The CSM softball team won their sixth
game in a row, and 12th out of their last 14, as they swept a doubleheader from
Rappahannock 4-2 and 10-2. The team is now 18-8 for the season.

DRAMATIC COMEBACK FUELS LADY HAWKS AS THEY
SWEEP FREDERICK
April
18 - The CSM softball was down to their final out
in the first game of a doubleheader against Frederick. The Hawks trailed
5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, with two out and nobody on base.
Katie Love gave CSM life, as she singled to center, and then raced to third when
the ball got away from the centerfielder. Paige Sowder singled to score
Love with the tying run. Brittanie DiMichelle then hit a double deep over
the left fielder's head, allowing Sowder to score from first with the winning
run, as the Hawks claimed a 6-5 come from behind victory. CSM would go on
to win the second game 9-2, for their 12 win in the last 14 games.

HUTCHINSON THROWS NO HITTER AS HAWKS SWEEP
KNIGHTS
April
12, 2010 - CSM's Cristina Hutchinson threw a no
hitter in the second game of a twilight doubleheader, as the Hawks completed a
sweep of Rockville with a 9-1 victory at Stethem Park in Waldorf, Md.
Hutchinson walked 1 and struck out 5, as the only run by Rockville came as a
result of two errors in the fourth inning. The Hawks won the first game
8-2, with Hutchinson also pitching and getting the win. CSM (14-8, 9-5)
has now won 10 of their last 12 games.

LADY HAWKS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH
ROADRUNNERS
April 7, 2010 -
The CSM softball team split a doubleheader with
Delaware Tech (Owens), shutting out the Roadrunners in the first game 4-0, and
falling in the second game 7-6. The Lady Hawks have now won 8 of their
last 10 games. (more)

SOFTBALL HANDS CECIL 1st CONFERENCE LOSS IN
DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT
April 1, 2010 -
The CSM softball team dropped the first game of a
doubleheader to Cecil 2-1, but stormed back in the second game to hand the
Seahawks their first conference loss 8-3.

SOFTBALL SWEEPS P.G. TO EVEN RECORD
March 25, 2010 -
The CSM softball team swept a doubleheader from
Prince George's, 10-0 and 11-0, to even their record at 6-6, and 4-4 in MDJUCO
play. Cristina Hutchinson won the first game, striking out 10 of the 15
batters she faced, and Mazi Tucker picked up the win in the second game, as both
games ended after five innings due to the run rule.

CSM SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT CANCELED
March 11, 2010 -
Due to the rain predicted this weekend,
CSM's Tommy Morrison Invitational Tournament scheduled for Stethem Park in
Waldorf, Md. March 13 and 14 has been canceled. The decision was made
today, as many teams would be traveling on Friday, and needed time to cancel
their transportation arrangements.

LADY HAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH SPLIT WITH
PATRICK HENRY
March 9, 2010 -
On a balmy spring afternoon, the CSM softball
season opened the season by splitting a pair of games with Patrick Henry,
dropping the opener 11-2, but rebounding to win the second game 8-7.

CSM TO HOST SOFTBALL INVITATIONAL
March
5, 2010 - The College of Southern Maryland will
host a softball invitational tournament March 13 and 14 at Stethem Park, in
Waldorf, Md. CSM's Tommy Morrison Invitational Tournament was named after
long time coach Tommy Morrison, who passed away in 2008. This year's
tournament features 12 teams from six different states. Action begins
Saturday at 10:00 AM, and will conclude with the championship game Sunday at

2010 SOFTBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
January
11, 2010 - The College of Southern Maryland
Softball Team will open the season on Tuesday, March 9 when they host Patrick
Henry at 2:00 PM. The team will participate in two tournaments, hosting
the CSM Softbal hosting the Tom Morrison Invitational Tournament March 13-14 at
Stethem Park in Waldorf, Md., and traveling to the Hagerstown Tournament April
10-11. The team will host Delaware Tech (Owens), a participant in the
National Tournament last season, and will travel to Chesapeake, the Region XX
