Briarcliffe won the 6th CSM Softball Invitational defeating Hagerstown 16-0 in the Championship game. The Tournament was played March 10 and 11 at Stethem Park in Waldorf, Md. and featured 11 teams from four different states.

The Hawks opened play by defeating first year program Penn State-Fayette 3-2. In their second game, Beaver County handed the Hawks a setback 2-0. CSM bounced back with a 9-1 victory over Suffolk-West . In their final game on Saturday the Hawks staged a late inning rally that fell just short as they fell to Frederick 5-4.

On Sunday, the Hawks lost to eventual tournament champion Briarcliffe 9-2 in a quarter-final game. CSM was let by Mandy McVerry, who hit .615 for the tournament with 2 doubles, a triple, and 6 RBI’s. Yola Lyles hit .333 and Erin Waltersdorf hit .313. Leah Gibson was a perfect 2-0 pitching for the Hawks with 8 strikeouts and a 1.91 ERA. Defensively Jennifer Brown (ss) and Andrea Brady (2b) played excellent defense up the middle. Stacy Bean also played well defensively in her first games catching.

Briarcliffe finished the tournament 5-1 and advanced through the championship bracket on Sunday to claim the Tournament Championship. Jennifer Graham from Briarcliffe was the MVP of the tournament. Graham batted 9-14 (.643) and had 10 stolen bases. Nicole Moschen, also from Briarcliffe, was the Most Valuable Pitcher. Moschen was a perfect 3-0 in the tournament, and pitched a one hitter in the championship game.
