SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR TO P.G.

March 28 – The CSM softball team fell to Prince George’s 4 – 0 and 7 – 3. The losses snapped an 8 game win streak for the Hawks, who fall to 9 – 5, and 4 – 2 in conference play. Prince George’s improves to 8 – 3. 
     The Owls jumped on top in the first game on an RBI single from Lauren Hebb. The damage could have been worse but Mandy McVerry threw out a runner at the plate trying to score from 2nd on a single to center. PG added two more runs in the 2nd on a double by Katie Stewart and a sacrifice fly by Lauri Coe. The Owls added an unearned run in the 3rd.
     CSM threatened in the 6th inning, loading the bases with one out. Kristen Tucker hit a line shot but first baseman Lauren Hebb made the catch to stymie the Hawks. Jennifer Brown lead the Hawk attack with two hits.

In the second game Prince George’s again jumped in front early. The big inning was the 3rd, where the Owls scored four runs, two on a double by Liz Theoharris.
     The Hawks battled right back in the top of the 4th. Andrea Brady led off the inning with a looping double down the left field line. She advanced to third on a past ball, and scored the Hawks first run on a infield single by Kristin Tucker. Leah Gibson’s triple scored Tucker for the Hawks second run.
     CSM added a run in the 6th. Leah Gibson walked, then moved to second on a past ball. Melissa Speake’s single scored Gibson. The Hawks had chances to cut the lead further, stranding runners in scoring position in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings.
     Leah Gibson was 2-2 in the second game, and Jennifer Brown continued her hot hitting also adding two hits.
