SOFTBALL SWEEPS CECIL
WIN STREAK CLIMBS TO 13

Saturday, April 13 - The CSM softball team swept Cecil 8-0 and 9-1 today to extend their win streak to 13.  Both games ended after 5 innings as the Hawks (21-5, 9-1) run ruled Cecil in both games.

Erin Waltersdorff earned the win in the first game, scattering 3 hits in shutting out the Seahawks.  Her only trouble came in the top of the first inning, when Cecil (2-14) loaded the bases on a single, fielders choice (when no one covered first on a ground ball to the right side), and Waltersdorff's only walk of the game.  She settled down and pitched out of the jam by striking out the next two Seahawks to end the threat.

Waltersdorff struck out the side in the 2nd inning, and had 8 strikeouts for the game.

CSM broke the game open early, with four runs in the bottom of the 1st.  Megan Oursler walked and advanced to second on Amanda Boswell's single.  Stacy Bean plated both runners with a double to left centerfield.  Jennifer Brown singled, but Stacy Bean was thrown out at home.  Micki Johnson walked, and Allison Middleton was safe on a fielders choice to load the bases.  Amanda Kidwell then singled, scoring Brown and Johnson.

The Hawks added another run in the 2nd, to take a 5-0 lead.  Amanda Boswell singled, moved to 2nd on Andrea Brady's single, advanced to 3rd when Stacy Bean walked, and scored on Jennifer Brown's single.

CSM added their final 3 runs in the 4th.  Amanda Boswell lead things off with a walk, followed by back to back RBI doubles by Andrea Brady and Stacy Bean.  Bean advanced to 3rd on a passed ball, and scored on Allison Middleton's single.

The Hawks jumped on top early in the 2nd game as well, erupting for 5 runs in the first inning.

With one out, singles by Amanda Boswell and Andrea Brady, followed by a walk to Stacy Bean loaded the bases.  After Jennifer Brown fouled out, Allison Middleton hit a two strike pitch up the middle to drive in the first 2 runs.  Amanda Kidwell walked to load the bases up once again.  Melissa Speake walked to drive in another run, putting CSM up 3-0.  Erin Waltersdorff then hit a 1-2 pitch for a double, to drive in the final two runs and give the Hawks a 5-0.

Cecil scored a run in the bottom of the 1st on 3 hits, to cut the margin to 5-1.

CSM added two more runs in the 2nd to take a 7-1 advantage.  Andrea Brady and Stacy Bean singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  With two out, Allison Middleton drove in one run with a single, and Amanda Kidwell walked with the bases loaded to drive in the other run.

The Hawks scored their final two runs in the top of the 5th.  Megan Oursler doubled and scored on Amanda Boswell's single.  Nyeema Smalls drove in Boswell with a single to the right side.

CSM held Cecil scoreless in the bottom of the 5th, for the final 9-1 margin.

"We played well"  said Head Coach Tom Morrison.  "We had timely hitting, and Erin Waltersdorff was in control the entire day,"

Waltersdorff got the win in the second game as well improving her record to 20-4.

The Hawks will be in action again on Sunday, April 14 when they host Frederick in a noon doubleheader.
