LADY HAWKS TOPPLE TROJANS TO SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

Thursday, April 24 - After a disappointing 6-5 loss in the first game of a doubleheader, the CSM softball team came back to win the nightcap 11-1.

The Hawks were done in by poor fielding in the first game, as they committed eight errors, and all six Allegany runs were unearned.  CSM left nothing to chance in the second game, pounding out 13 hits and run ruling Allegany after six innings.

In the first game, Allegany jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the first, but the Hawks came right back to tie the game in the home half of the inning.  Megan Oursler walked, and was sacrificed to second by Amanda Boswell.  Oursler stole third base, and scored on Melanie Fowler's RBI single.

After the Trojans scored two unearned runs in the top of the third, to go ahead 3-1, the Hawks scored three runs in their half of the third to take a 4-3 lead.  Amanda Boswell started things off with a single, and moved to second on Heather Turner's single.  Melanie Fowler walked to load the bases with no outs.  Karlee Adams plated Boswell with a sacrifice fly to left.  Chrissy Walden then singled, to load the bases again.  Heather Turner scored and Walden and Fowler  moved to second and third on a wild pitch.  Erica Bates drove in the third run when she grounded out to second.

The lead was short lived, as Allegany scored three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.  The Trojans only managed one hit, but were helped by three CSM errors.

The Hawks inched closer in the fifth, when Heather Turner tripled, and scored on an error by the Allegany third baseman to cut the lead to 6-5.

CSM had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh, but couldn't push the tying run across.

Heather Turner (12-3, 2 saves) pitched four innings and took the loss, Jen Cook went the distance and got the win for Allegany.

In the second game, the Hawks batted first and jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Heather Turner tripled, and scored on a passed ball.

Allegany (5-9) tied the game in the bottom of the first at 1-1.

CSM (23-10, 12-4) scored 2 in the third, 4 in the fourth, and 4 more in the sixth to break the game open.

Heather Turner was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and scored two runs, Annah Rice double twice, had 2 RBI's and scored 2 runs, Jessica Cecil was 2 for 2 and scored two runs, and Amanda Boswell was 3 for 3 and scored 3 runs to lead the Hawk attack.

Melanie Fowler (9-4) went the distance giving up only two hits to earn the win.  Amanda Clites took the loss for Allegany.

CSM will conclude the regular season with a doubleheader at Dundalk on Sunday at 1:00 PM, before starting Region XX Tournament play next weekend at Cecil.  Tournament parings and game times will be announced next week.
