ERICA BATES' NO HITTER LEADS LADY HAWKS TO SWEEP OF DUNDALK Wednesday, March 31 - Erica Bates' strong pitching performance led the CSM softball team to a sweep over Dundalk. In the first game, Bates struck out nine, while allowing only two hits, as the Hawks cruised to a 10-0 win. Bates pitched her second no hitter of the year in the nightcap, allowing only two batters to reach base, on a walk and hit batsman, as CSM won the second game 14-0. Erica Bates helped herself in the first game going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's, including a triple. Jamea Waltersdorf also tripled and had a RBI for the Hawks. Karlee Adams (2 for 4) and Danielle Sturman (2 for 3) also had hot bats for CSM. The only time Bates ran into trouble was in the 4th inning, when Dundalk (0-5), loaded the bases with no outs. Bates got the next batter to hit a ground ball back to her and she threw home to get the force at the plate. Bates struck out the next batter, and got the final out throwing home to catcher Karlee Adams on a delayed steal attempt. In the second game, Bates only allowed two batters to reach base. She hit the first Dragon she faced, but Jamie Buckler's throw to Jamea Waltersdorff erased her on a steal attempt. In the fifth inning Bates walked a runner, who was left stranded at first. Bates struck out five in the nightcap. Both games ended after five innings due to the run rule. CSM (16-0, 6-0) got all the runs they would need in the second inning of the nightcap, as they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored 8 runs. Annah Rice had two hits in the inning and drove in two runs. Danielle Sturman had a double to knock in two runs, and Jamie Buckler, Karlee Adams, and Jamea Waltersdorff also had RBI's. The Hawks added six more runs in the bottom of the 4th, for the final 14-0 margin. Cheyann Gilroy, Annah Rice, Shanita McPherson, and Jamea Waltersdorff all had RBI's in the inning. CSM will travel to Allegany on Friday, and then play in the Hagerstown Tournament this weekend, before returning home next week to face Frederick on Wednesday (3:00 PM), and Potomac State (2:00 PM) on Thursday. |
