VOLLEYBALL SIGNS FIVE RECRUITS

August 11, 2004 - The CSM volleyball team begins practice this week with five new recruits joining the team.  The new Lady Hawks are Jessica Crum (Calvert), Jennifer Fore (Westlake), Megan Fox (LaPlata), Kimmie Patton (Bishop Ireton), Ashley Sands (Northern), and Katie Tyner (St. Mary's Ryken).  Combined with returning players Kia Stewart, Erin Consalvo, and Danielle Sturman, the Hawks are looking forward to a successful season.

Here's a quick look at the newest Hawks:

Jessica Crum - Jessie was the defensive specialist on the varsity at Calvert High School for three years.  She was the starter on the 2003 Maryland State AAA State Championship Team.  She will play libero at CSM, a position that isn't used in the high school game.  Jessie also played shortstop for the varsity softball team at Calvert, and didn't miss a game in four years!

Jennifer Fore - Jenny is a transfer from Catonsville Community College in Baltimore, but did not play volleyball there.  In high school she was a defensive specialist at Westlake, where she won the Gateraid Will to Win and Minds in Motion Awards.

Megan Fox - Megan is a setter from LaPlata High School, where she played varsity for two years.  She was team captain her senior year.  She won the Scholar Athlete and Merit Awards all four years at LaPlata.

Kimmie Patton - Kimmie played Middle Blocker for Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va.  She had the second highest blocking average in the WCAC last season.  She won the Cardinal Award at Ireton, and was Honorable Mention for the WCAC Conference team.

Ashley Sands - Ashley is a setter from volleyball power Northern High School.  She played varsity for two years, and was a member of the SMAC Championship team last season.

Katie Tyner - Katie played varsity all four years at St. Mary's Ryken High School.  She was a member of the strong Charles County Juniors team coached by Michelle Ruble that finished in second place.

Practice started on Monday, and the first match is August 27, when the team travels to North Carolina to play in the Pitt Community College Tournament.
