HAWKS SWEEP COUGARS IN THREE
September 30, 2005 -
The CSM volleyball team was as hot as the
Florida heat they experienced in their weekend trip to the Sunshine State,
as they made quick work of the Frederick Cougars in a 3-0 sweep. Jamea
Waltersdorff, Katie Tyner, Janea Burt, and Vanessa Thompson used the
accurate sets of Becky Peters as the Hawks jumped off to big leads in all
three games.
In the first game, with the scored knotted at 3-3, CSM (13-13, 4-1) went on
a 17-5 run to put the game away, as the Hawks cruised to a 30-11 win.
Vanessa Thompson had two aces during the run and a kill, and Jamea
Waltersdorff also had a kill for a key point during the rally.
It was more of the same for the Hawks in the second game, as CSM jumped out
to a 16-3 lead and never looked back. Jamea Waltersdorff and Vanessa
Thompson had service aces during the run, Janea Burt had two huge kills, and
Katie Tyner added a kill during the run. Jamea Waltersdorff placed the
final point into an open area to give CSM a 30-16 win.
In the final game, the Hawks again jumped to a big lead at 10-1.
Jasimne Jackson started the run with a service ace, Katie Tyner added
another ace and a kill, and Tyner and Janea Burt combined for back to back
blocks for another point during the run.
Midway through the third game the Hawks lost their rhythm, and Frederick
(3-4, 2-3) was able to cut the lead to two at 16-14. However after a
side out, Vanessa Thompson came through with another service ace, and later
added a kill, and Waltersdorff added a kill and service ace as CSM pulled
away to a 30-18 win.
The Hawks are in the midst of a four game home stand, and will play Essex on
Tuesday (6:00 PM), and Allegany on Harvest Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 8 at
12:00 PM next week.
