CSM Volleyball Team Finishes 2nd in
Conference
Burt, Chapman Selected to All-Tournament Team
November 1, 2006 - The College
of Southern Maryland volleyball team completed its winning season in Region
XX tournament play Sunday, finishing third in the region and second in the
Maryland Junior College Conference.
With an overall record of 25-21, the team had three returning sophomores in
Janae Burt of Great Mills, and Rachel Olup and Virginia Smith of Thomas
Stone. Burt at opposite earned an All-American nomination this year as well
as a spot on the All-Tournament Team and All-Region First Team. Missy
Chapman of Patuxent at libero joined Burt on the All-Tournament Team, and
earned honors on the All-Region second team. Middle Blocker Becca Steinback
of Leonardtown also was named to the All-Region second team.

Also playing for the Hawks this season were Allyssa Blackbrun, defensive
specialist, Great Mills High School; Samantha Thurman, outside
hitter/defensive specialist, Thomas Stone High School; Ally Rose, outside
hitter, La Plata High School; Nicole Agambar, defensive specialist,
Huntingtown High School; Julie McGaughran, middle blocker, Northern High
School; and Sara Young, setter, La Plata High School.
Ruble is in her 16th season as head coach, and was joined in leading the
Lady Hawks by assistant coaches Pat Brewer and Ron Swann, both in their
second seasons. Student Assistants this year were Katie Tyner and Tai Duong.
