VOLLEYBALL RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS WITH SWEEP OF ANNE ARUNDEL

September 24, 2008 - The CSM volleyball team swept Anne Arundel 25-7, 25-18, 25-10, to remain undefeated in MDJUCO play.  The Hawks improve to 15-8 overall, and are 4-0 in conference play.

CSM used a 19 - 1 run in the first game, to turn a 6-5 lead into a 25-7 victory.  The Hawks scored seven points on Chantal Hebron's serve, including two aces from Hebron, and one kill each from Katlin "Bubba" Gardiner, and Ashley Wolfe.

The Hawks scored the final 10 points on Kelsey Loss' serve, with Loss serving one ace, Gardiner and Wolfe combining for a block for a point, and Liberty McLean's kill put the exclamation point on the 25-7 win.

The second game was more of a struggle for the Hawks, as Anne Arundel (5-2) jumped out to an 8-5 lead.  Back to back aces by Ashley Wolfe tied the game, and CSM took the lead 9-8 when the Pioneers hit the ball long.  However Anne Arundel scored four points in a row to regain the lead, taking a 12-9 lead on Ivanna Melendez's ace.

The Hawks battled back once again, tying the game at 12-12 on a block by Liberty McLean and Chantal Hebron.  CSM went on to outscore the Pioneers 13-4, to put the game away.  Brooke Martin had two aces, Chantal Hebron had an ace and a kill, Tanee' Holly and Carlie Wood had aces, and Connie Marcum had a big kill during the run.

Once again the Hawks jumped in front early in the third game, scoring five of the first six points to take a 5-1 lead.  Anne Arundel pulled to within two points at 7-5, but that was as close as they could get as the Hawks went on to a 25-17 win.

The Hawks travel to Baltimore on Monday, and Allegany on Oct. 1, before returning home next Friday to host Chesapeake at 6:00 PM.
