VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS FREDERICK FOR 8th WIN IN A ROW

September 2, 2008 - The CSM volleyball team defeated Frederick 25-10, 25-11, 25-12, to win their 8th match in a row.  The Hawks have not dropped a game during their win streak.

The Hawks displayed a balanced attack, playing good defense, and setting the front line for kills.

CSM (9-3, 1-0) broke open a tie game with a 10-2 run in the first game, taking a 12-4 lead and they never looked back.  Tanee' Holly had a block and a cross-court spike during the run, Ashley Wolfe had two kills and a block, and Carlie Wood had a kill.  The Hawks had another mini-run late in the game, led by Wolf's two service ace's.

In the second game the Hawks slowly pulled away.  CSM scored five points on Chantal Hebron's serve, with an ace from Hebron, a kill and a block from Wolfe, and a kill from Wood.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the third game.  Frederick (0-1) cut the lead to 8-7 before CSM went on a 13-2 run put the game out of reach.  Tanee' Holly, Liberty McLean, and Carlie Wood all had a strong game at the net, and Kelsey Loss did an outstanding job setting the front line.  Brooke Martin led the Hawks on a 7-0 run on her serve, including 4 aces.

Connie Marcum did a fine job at Libro, and Katlin "Bubba" Gardiner came off the bench for some nice sets and also recorded a kill.

The Hawks travel to Essex on Friday (6:00 PM), and will host the CSM Invitational Tournament on Sept. 12 - 13.
