VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS FREDERICK FOR 8th WIN
IN A ROW
September 2, 2008 - The CSM volleyball
team defeated Frederick 25-10, 25-11, 25-12, to win their 8th match in a
row. The Hawks have not dropped a game during their win streak.
The Hawks displayed a balanced attack,
playing good defense, and setting the front line for kills.
CSM (9-3, 1-0) broke open a tie game with a
10-2 run in the first game, taking a 12-4 lead and they never looked back.
Tanee' Holly had a block and a cross-court spike during the run, Ashley
Wolfe had two kills and a block, and Carlie Wood had a kill. The Hawks
had another mini-run late in the game, led by Wolf's two service ace's.
In the second game the Hawks slowly pulled
away. CSM scored five points on Chantal Hebron's serve, with an ace
from Hebron, a kill and a block from Wolfe, and a kill from Wood.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in
the third game. Frederick (0-1) cut the lead to 8-7 before CSM went on
a 13-2 run put the game out of reach. Tanee' Holly, Liberty McLean,
and Carlie Wood all had a strong game at the net, and Kelsey Loss did an
outstanding job setting the front line. Brooke Martin led the Hawks on
a 7-0 run on her serve, including 4 aces.
Connie Marcum did a fine job at Libro, and
Katlin "Bubba" Gardiner came off the bench for some nice sets and also
recorded a kill.
The Hawks travel to Essex on Friday (6:00
PM), and will host the CSM Invitational Tournament on Sept. 12 - 13. |
