VOLLEYBALL RALLIES TO DEFEAT HARFORD

September 16, 2008 - After being stunned in the first game, the 16th ranked CSM volleyball team rallied to defeat Harford three games to one.  Chantal Hebron and Tannee' Holly came up strong for the Hawks in the decisive fourth game, as Hebron had five kills, and Holly had two kills and three blocks.

With the score tied 3-3 in the first game, Harford (2-6, 0-3) went on a 5-0 run behind Kelsey Sullivan's serve.  The Hawks slowly chipped away at the lead, and tied the score at 16-16 on Tanee' Holly's ace, only to see Harford run off three straight points to take a 20-17 lead on an ace by Selena Ortega-Marvel.  CSM (14-4, 3-0) rallied once again, and tied the score at 21-21 after the Owls hit the ball long, but Harford was able to retake the lead once again and win the first game 25-23.

CSM jumped in front 5-0 in the second game behind Kelsey Loss' serve.  Loss had an ace, and Liberty McLean and Chantal Hebron both had kills during the run.  The Hawks maintained a comfortable lead on the way to a 25-15 win.

In the third game Gigi Gilmore came off the bench to provide a spark for the Hawks, as CSM again jumped to an early lead.  Katlin "Bubba" Gardiner's kill gave the Hawks a 19-7 lead, and CSM went on to capture the third game 25-15.

The Hawks took charge once again in the fourth game, outscoring the Owls 14-3 to start the game.  Tanee' Holly and Ashley Wolfe combined for a block for the Hawks 14th point, and after Harford scored after a CSM mishit, the Hawks scored three of the next four points to put the game out of reach as they won 25-17.

The Hawks will travel to Florida this weekend for the Pasco-Hernando Tournament, before returning home to face Anne Arundel on September 24 (6:00 PM).
