  Assistant Head Coach: Nila Straka

Nila has come full circle as she returns to CSM as the Associate Head Coach.  Before leaving the college to become the head coach of Georgetown University, her tenure posted five MDJUCO Championships (1980-1986). Three Regional Championships (1983-1985), and three NJCAA final four appearances (1983-1985), finishing second in the nation in 1985.  She has coached seven All Americans in NJCAA volleyball.  Also, while at CSM, Nila was the head tennis coach, winning Regional Championships in 1984 and 1985.

While at Georgetown University, Nila’s teams were Big East Conference runner-ups for two years (1987-1988).  She was also the President of the Big East Volleyball Conference from 1989-1991.  From 1992-1996 Nila became the assistant coach at George Mason University.  During that time she helped Mason win five consecutive CAA championships.  Mason made five NCAA appearances during this time, finishing 16th in the nation in 1996.  In 2000, Nila was head coach at Westlake High School, and the head coach with People to People Sports Ambassadors, coaching in Germany/Holland and New Zealand/Australia.  In 2007 she was the assistant coach for the All Navy Women’s Volleyball team that finished second at the All Armed Forces Games.  Nila is a consultant for volleyball and runs volleyball camps throughout the year.  Her career volleyball record posts 500-146.

Upon leaving the coaching world she ventured into the business world.  She and her husband, Joe, gave back to the community, as they were co-owners in building the Capital Clubhouse sports facility in Waldorf, Maryland.
