KNIGHTS GROUND LADY HAWKS Wednesday, January 29 - After a close first half, Rockville pulled away in the second half to defeat the Lady Hawks 71-44. The Knights spurted to an early 14-2 lead five minutes into the game, but CSM (2-14, 0-7) turned up the defensive pressure, and slowly clawed their way back into the game. The Lady Hawks went on a 18-6 run, and cut the lead to two with five minutes left in the first half. Rockville (10-5) finished the half strong, taking a 32-24 half time lead. After the crowd enjoyed a performance by the Alph Zure Step Squad from Lackey High School, Rockville came out and dominated the second half. The Lady Hawks had no answer for Rockville's 6'5" center Tiffany Williams, who finished with 35 points, 22 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots. Cheyann Gilroy led CSM with 15 points, despite spending most of the second half on the bench with four fouls. Sharron Miles added 10 points. The Lady Hawks play at Howard Friday night, before returning home to play nationally ranked Louisburg at 5:30 PM for homecoming. The men's team will play Essex at 7:30 to complete the doubleheader. |
