LADY HAWKS FALL SHORT IN FINAL HOME GAME

February 6, 2006 - Frederick spoiled "sophomore night", defeating CSM 69-53 in the CSM women's basketball team's final home game.   CSM sophomores Crystal Farmer, Kimmie Patton, Kalee Smith, and CSM scorekeeper Chelsea Brown were honored before the game.

Crystal Farmer is in her second year with the Hawks, and is third on the team in offensive rebounds and assists.  Kimmie Patton is also in her second season with the Hawks.  Kimmie did not play in high school, and has steadily improved over the past two years.  She is also a member of the CSM volleyball and softball teams.  Kalee Smith played her sophomore year at CSM after transferring from Florida.  She has set five individual game records, will set eight season records by the end of her stay at CSM, and leads the team in five of the eleven statistical categories.   Smith is injured and was unable to play tonight.  Chelsea Brown has been the scorekeeper the past two seasons, and keeps the CSM scorebook at away games as well as serving as the official scorekeeper at home games for both the men's and women's basketball teams.

Frederick (11-13,5-7) jumped in front early, racing to a 11-2 lead five minutes into the first half.  Back to back baskets by Brittany Vines and Christina Simms cut the Cougar lead to five at 14-9 with 13:38 left, but Frederick outscored the Hawks 12-6 the rest of the half to lead 26-15 at the break.

The Hawks shooting was as cold as the winter weather outside to start the second half, and Frederick went on a 16-2 run to open up a 42-17 lead with 14:12 left in the game.

Shannon Wilson's baseline jumper ended the drought for the Hawks, and Brittany Vines followed with a 3-pointer to trim the lead to 42-22, but that was as close as CSM (8-16, 4-9) could come until the final minutes.

The Hawks will close the regular season on Wednesday at Christendom (5:00 PM), before participating in the MDJUCO Tournament next week.
