LADY HAWKS COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT HAGERSTOWN

January 11, 2006 - After trailing the entire first half and early in the second half, the Lady Hawks rallied to defeat Hagerstown 67-63.  CSM has now won five in a row, and improves to 7-9 overall, and 4-3 in conference play.

Hagerstown (10-5, 2-3) jumped in front early, and led by as much as 10 points in the first half, before the Hawks closed the margin to 32-28 at the half.

Hagerstown clung to their slim lead early in the second half, until Brittany Vines made one of two free throws to give CSM their first lead, 40-39, with 13:16 left.  From that point on, the game remained tight, with several lead changes, and neither team able to pull away.

Kalee Smith's three point play after a steal put CSM up 61-55 with 2:18 left.  Brittany Vines added a free throw to give the Hawks a 62-56 lead with 1:53 left to play.

Hagerstown had one more rally in them, as back to back baskets by Samantha Cain sandwiched around another Brittany Vines free throw cut the margin to 63-60 with 24.6 seconds left in the game.

Kalee Smith hit a pair of free throws to put CSM ahead 65-60 with just :14.6 left to play, but Samantha Cain hit a three pointer to cut the CSM lead to just two at 65-63 with 3 seconds left to play.  Hagerstown applied full court pressure, and CSM turned the ball over, giving Hagerstown one more chance.  CSM was able to steal the inbounds pass, and two free throws by Christine Johnson iced the victory for CSM at 67-63.

Brittany Vines led CSM in scoring with 23 points, and Kalee Smith added 20 points.  Samantha Cain led Hagerstown with 19 points.

CSM will begin a three game road trip on Saturday at Rockville, before returning home to the Hawk's Nest on Wednesday, January 25, to face Cecil at 5:30 PM.
