LADY HAWKS FALL TO POTOMAC STATE 66-58
December 1, 2005 -
Potomac State went on a 23-10 run to start
the second half to break open a close game, and defeat the CSM women's
basketball team 66-58.
It looked like CSM would avenge a loss to Potomac State in the Catamount
Tournament in November, as they jumped in front 9-2 eight minutes into the
game. Potomac State (4-2) rallied behind good outside shooting, as
they drained a number of trays to take a 24-17 lead with 2:51 left in the
first half. CSM (2-6) battled back and trailed by just three, 26-23 at
halftime.
Potomac State was able to put the game away with a combination of a good
fastbreak, and cold shooting by the Hawks, as they raced to a 49-33 with
6:34 left in the game.
The Hawks applied some pressure themselves, forced several Catamount
turnovers, and were able to cut the Potomac State lead in half over the
final six minutes of the game, but the rally fell short.
Kalee Smith led the Hawks in scoring with 22 pts., and Brittany Vines added
19. Jennifer Thomas led Potomac State with 22 pts.
CSM is in the middle of a four game home stand, and will play Garrett on
Saturday at 6:00 PM, and Anne Arundel December 7 at 5:00 PM.
