COLONIALS SQUEAK BY HAWKS 63-61
January 17, 2007 -
With only six players available, the CSM
women's basketball team put up a valiant effort before falling to
Philadelphia Community College 63-61.
The game was tied at halftime, and went back and forth all night. With
four minutes left to play, the Hawks leading scorer, Shannon Wilson (20
pts.), fouled out, leaving the Hawks without any subs. With a minute
left to play, Christine Johnson (10 pts.) fouled out, forcing to CSM play
four against five.
However, despite being down a man, the Hawks still had a chance to win at
the end, as Katie Kidd was fouled with 15 seconds to play, with CSM down by
a point, 62-61. Kidd was unable to convert the free throws, but CSM
grabbed the rebound and had one more chance to win, but Virginia Smith's
short jumper was off target. CSM was forced to foul, and the Colonials
converted one of two free throws for the final margin.
CSM (8-6, 3-2) had two other players in double figures, as Tanya Sites had
12 pts., and Katie Kidd scored 11 pts.
The Hawks hurt themselves with poor free throw shooting, converting on only
13 of 27 attempts (48%), while Philadelphia Community College (13-5) hit 20
of 30 (66%) from the charity stripe.
The Hawks return home on Friday for a 5:30 PM conference game against
Allegany.
