WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS CONFERENCE OPENER
November 28, 2007 -
The CSM women's basketball team pulled away
from Takoma Park in the 2nd half to win their MDJUCO opener 54-36. CSM
improves to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
Although both teams only dressed six players for the game, it was a contrast
in styles. The Lady Falcons preferred a slower paced game, as they
packed the middle with a 3-2 zone, and played a slow deliberate offense.
The Hawks on the other hand pushed the ball upcourt at every opportunity,
and played a pressure man to man defense.
The game was close throughout most of the first half. CSM was able to
generate several fastbreaks, but didn't make the most of their
opportunities, as they were plagued by turnovers and poor shooting.
Takoma Park was able to score some baskets off their set offense to keep the
game close, and CSM only led 32-23 at the half.
However the up-tempo game by the Hawks paid off in the second half, as CSM
held the Lady Falcons to just 13 points. Takoma Park only scored three
points in the first twelve minutes of the second half, as the Hawks pulled
away and put the game out of reach.
Chantal Hebron led CSM with 17 points, Brandy Thomas had 12 pts., and Katie
Kidd added 10 pts.
Jillian Morrison and Jessica Debase each had 10 pts. for Takoma Park, as the
Lady Falcons fell to 0-3 on the year.
CSM travels to Allegany on Saturday, before beginning a three game homestand
next week with games against Cecil on Dec. 4 (7:00 PM), and Prince George's
Dec. 7 (5:00 PM).
