LADY HAWKS WIN FIRST ROUND TOURNAMENT GAME

Tuesday, November 4 - Just a few days after Halloween, it was all "treat" for CSM fans as they watched the women's soccer team defeat Potomac State (4-2-1) on a gorgeous fall afternoon.

CSM (7-6), started off slowly, and was only ahead 2-0 at halftime over a team they had beaten handily just 11 days before.  Amy Conway scored the Hawks first goal off a fine pass from Rachael Freeze, and Shauna Briscoe netted the second goal off a corner from Tabitha Jett.

It didn't take the Hawks long to get going in the second half, scoring just 40 seconds into the half to take a 3-0 lead.  Melanie Tyner scored the goal, with Shauna Briscoe getting the assist.

After that the Hawks were as hot as the 80 degree plus temperature, as they cruised to a 7-0 victory.

Tabitha Jett scored two goals and had a second assist, Melanie Tyner collected her second goal of the afternoon, and Amaris Hartshorne collected a goal to complete the scoring.  Amy Conway had an assist to go with her earlier goal, and Anna Jean and Renee Flippin also had assists.

Kelly Hickman was outstanding in goal, collecting her fourth shut-out of the season.  The Catamounts best scoring chance came mid-way through the second half, off a direct kick just outside the box.  The ball was momentarily loose in front of the net before Hickman alertly dove on the ball to preserve the shut-out.

The Hawks advance to the second round of the tournament, where they will face Essex on Thursday, November 6 at 5:00 PM.  That game will be played at Anne Arundel.

The winner of that game will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, November 8 to play Catonsville.  That game will begin at 11:00 AM, and will also be at Anne Arundel.
