This certificate program prepares students for positions as administrative assistants and administrative support personnel. Students develop the skills needed to function in today's automated office settings and they are able to select electives appropriate to their area of specialization.

Information Processing certificate

Number of credits required:  21

Students completing this certificate are prepared to assume a variety of positions in an automated office setting. The program recognizes the increasingly important role of the microcomputer in modern business and is designed to assist students develop the skills in the use of microcomputer applications for word/information processing, record keeping, and database development.

It is expected that students entering the program will be able to type 35 words per minute or will complete OFT 1010 (Keyboarding & Document Processing) in addition to the other required courses. Instruction in selected OFT courses is individualized. In addition to scheduled class hours, students develop skills in a supervised computer lab. Cooperative education is available for this program.

Medical Transcription

This course sequence prepares students to enter the medical transcription field. Students gain a working knowledge of the content and formats of medical documents and reports typically dictated in physicians' offices, hospital clinics, and hospital ancillary and support facilities. Students develop proficiency with medical terminology and gain technical competencies required to operate transcription equipment, including the transcriber and microcomputer.
