The mentoring program at the CSM campus has operated
for a number of years in a variety of formats.
Currently, many CSS 1010 classes have advisors
assigned to each student to assist them with academic
planning and career goal setting. Mentoring services
are not limited to one course. Any student who would
like to meet with a faculty member, community business
member, advisor or student to discuss issues relating
to academic or career success is encouraged to contact
Career Services. Career Services staff will discuss
your particular needs and provide you with a person in
a particular area of interest. This person can mentor
you frequently or occasionally, depending on your
needs. It is always helpful to talk to someone with
experience and insight into the issues you face.
Please contact Career Services at your campus for more
information on how mentoring can assist with your
goals.

Transferring to a 4-year college? CSM students wishing
to transfer to a 4-year college can receive assistance
in a variety of ways: partnerships, transfer handbook,
career center resources, and online sites.
Partnerships with a number of universities provide
bachelor's degree programs in Southern Maryland. These
programs allow students to easily transfer locally
between institutions with minimal risk of wasted
credits, and save thousands of dollars on tuition,
fees, housing, and transportation costs.
Transfer Handbook may answer some of your questions
about transferring from the College of Southern
Maryland and lists information about 4-year Maryland
schools.
Peterson’s Guide is a comprehensive database of 4 year
colleges. You can search on the name of the
institution, location or program of study Every
listing gives a brief summary of the college, programs
of study, tuition, financial aid, housing, and
admission requirements.
Artsys offers transfer information for many Maryland
colleges. Students can find out which CSM courses will
transfer to each institution by typing in the name of
the course and receiving college. Don’t get caught
with non transferable credits!
Transfer Fairs are held twice a year at the LaPlata
Campus. At this event over 40 in-state and
out-of-state colleges and universities send
representatives to meet with CSM students to answer
questions and give out information. Look for
announcements under Events???
Other resources are available in the career center at
the LaPlata Campus:
• The Two-Year College Databook is a directory of
accredited two-year colleges with their major programs
of study
• Higher Education Directory of both two-year and
four-year colleges
• Selected catalogs from Maryland and Virginia
colleges
• Other transfer guides

Don’t let financial reasons stop you from pursuing
your dream career. Financial assistance is available
through CSM and other private organizations.
Throughout the year, various organizations provide
CSM's Financial Assistance Department with information
regarding scholarship and grant opportunities. Some of
these scholarships are for use at the college of the
student's choice, while others must be used at CSM.
The Financial Assistance Department has provided
contact information for each scholarship/grant and, if
available, a website you can visit for more
information. Click here to learn about types of
assistance available and the application process. Plan
early! Financial applications take time.
