The Career Beliefs Inventory is a tool designed to
help people identify career beliefs that may be
preventing them from achieving their career goals.
This inventory, consisting of 96 questions, helps
individuals examine beliefs about themselves and the
world of work. Career Specialists use this inventory
as a springboard to discuss attitudes and assumptions
that need to be examined when making and implementing
career choices. Results are measured in five
categories: current career situation, conditions
necessary for happiness; factors influencing
decisions; life changes and identifying barriers. The
inventory takes about 15 to 30 minutes to complete and
is scored by a career specialist.

College and Career are two topics that provoke
excitement, anxiety, satisfaction, concern, and many
times a mixture of all of the above. It may be helpful
to meet with someone to sort out all of the
information and questions you have as a student.
Knowing your course of action regarding academics and
career does not happen overnight. It takes time to
work out goals and specific paths to achieve those
goals. Assistance can also be beneficial as you plan
to overcome any obstacles to success. The Department
of Advising and Career Services is staffed with
advisors to assist you with planning and
implementation of your academic and career goals. The
advisors are skilled in issues such as transfer to a
bachelor’s program, course planning for your
Associate’s Degree, career decision making, resume
preparation, interview skills, job seeking, and much
more. Workshops are conducted each semester on career
related topics. Advisors are also available by
appointment to personalize our services to your
specific needs. Walk-in students can also be
accommodated to answer questions, but for the best
outcome it is advisable to make an appointment. This
assistance is available at all CSM campuses.
