Executive Directors Learning Circle in St. Mary's County

The Executive Directors Learning Circle meets every second Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. during the months of September-June (no meetings will be held in July and August) in Room 203, Building C, Leonardtown Campus. Executive Directors Roundtable in Charles County

These networking events provide a congenial setting for informal sharing of information and ideas about developments in the nonprofit community and professional challenges. Both the Circle and the Roundtable are open to all Executive Directors in the region. 

Volunteer Coordinator Meeting

Volunteer Coordinator Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every other month (September, November, January, March, and May) from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The March meeting is cancelled due to weather; the next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Location TBD. The Volunteer Coordinators from throughout the region met on January 10, 2017 at CSM Leonardtown at 10AM. Below is a short summary of the meeting:

The group began with introductions and descriptions of each organization or program represented.  Afterwards, the group learned about the newly refurbished Volunteer Southern MD website and explored how it can be used to recruit and manage volunteers.  Cara Fogarty on the NPI team is the point person for this website.   Questions may be sent to

Following the website orientation, the group shared interest items, best practices, and resources. 


Faith-Based Affinity Group Meeting

These meetings promote ways faith-based nonprofit organizations can help each other to include:  sharing info on events so each can support one another, partnering on common interests, sharing resources of support, networking, and increased awareness on community concerns and issues to rally collaborative efforts. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 10, 9:30 a.m., location TBD.

Our 11 January meeting was hosted by Pastor Steve Humphrey from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, MD. At the meeting each participant introduced themselves, their organization and its programs. It was a good discussion of learning about the different activities each organization provides to the southern Maryland region and how we can help/ support one another.

Bill Buffington, founder of Vconnections, a nonprofit helping veterans at CSM in their educational need to transition to the civilian world and helping our community veterans find the resources they need, shared about his organization and the opportunity of partnering with the faith-based to provide spiritual support to the veterans he helps. 

Fundraising Professionals Quarterly Meetings

NPI hosts quarterly meetings for fundraising professionals as a venue for sharing new resources, providing a best practices forum, and networking opportunities. The next meeting is Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Please e-mail the names and e-mail addresses of fundraising team members to be added to our database.

On January 5 at the Charlotte Hall Library, the Fundraising Professional Network met and began with introductions and descriptions of organizations, along with their particular needs for funds.  Each nonprofit was given the opportunity to share to discuss their most effective ways of promoting fundraisers or ask advice on their fundraising activities.  Additionally, questions were asked about how their marketing looks from the others perspectives.

The group discussed resources such as: planned giving, legacy gifts, end-of-year appeal, and blogs.  In addition to using Charity Navigator and Guidestar ratings.

Southern Maryland Veterans Support Coalition (SMVSC)

The next Southern Maryland Veterans Support Coalition (SMVSC) meeting is April 11, 2017 at 4 p.m., CSM, Prince Frederick Campus, Building A, Room 107. This group's focus is to assist the southern Maryland veteran support groups by providing a mechanism to help identify the different organizations in the region and to promote collaborative informational meetings to support each other's missions and needs. To develop a comprehensive resource of network of support veteran organizations assist our veterans and their families. For more information contact Barbara at
