Disclaimer
This handbook
is intended for use by part-time faculty of the college of Southern
Maryland. The handbook provides information to faculty concerning
the following: the history and mission of the college; procedures
and resources related to instruction; faculty governance; faculty
rank, evaluation, tenure, and grievance procedures; and faculty
duties, responsibilities, compensation and benefits. It should
thus be used as a reference when questions arise in any of these
areas.
The handbook
does not serve as a contract and should not be cited as such. No
provision of this handbook may be applied in contradiction of any
policies of the Board of Trustees and the college, or of any official
documents.
The handbook
is reviewed and updated annually to include new and revised policies
and procedures. Between annual reviews new or revised policies
and procedures may be implemented. The Board of Trustees reserves
to itself and its designees the authority to unilaterally
modify any policy, procedure or rule when required by law or when,
in the Board's discretion, such as a change is necessary. This
is in keeping with the Board's responsibility to determine the
mission of the college and to take whatever actions are necessary
to carry out all managerial functions entrusted to it. Actions
taken by the Board are reported to the college community through
the Friday Report. Faculty are expected to read the Friday Report
as it communicates official information.
