Message from Campaign Chairperson Mike Besche

Mike Besche As the President of Besche Oil Company, I see the results of what the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has to offer. I see it in my employees, in my neighbors, and in how the college impacts the entire community of Southern Maryland. I challenge you to look at how CSM has impacted your life or the lives of those around you.

CSM has a long history of providing quality education and training to thousands of residents in Southern Maryland. I am proud to be the chair of the CSM Foundation and to announce the Campaign for the Next 50 Years.

This campaign to raise $5 million will support the college in achieving its goals. The funds will help CSM address community and workforce needs and issues such as:

  1. Establishing an Institute for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (ISTEM)
  2. Creating a regional center for trades and transportation technologies
  3. Solving local nursing and healthcare workforce shortages
  4. Focusing on educational excellence
  5. Endowing a Student Scholarship Fund for Access and Success

The initial phase of this campaign has been very successful. College employees, CSM Board of Trustees, Foundation directors such as myself, and others have contributed more than $3.7 million as of July 2008.

With your financial support, CSM will continue to impact the lives of our employees, neighbors, and friends. Five very critical initiatives need your support. Find one that speaks to you, and give.
