Health Sciences Division: Medical Assisting
Welcome to the College of Southern Maryland’s Medical Assisting site. There’s never been a better time to enter the medical assisting field. According to the US Department of Labor Statistics, employment is projected to grow much faster than average, ranking medical assistants among the fastest growing occupations over the 2008-2018 decade.

CSM’s program prepares multi-skilled workers, able to effectively function in many different healthcare settings. Medical assistants manage office responsibilities in physicians’ offices, clinics, medical departments in industry and government, and other ambulatory care centers. They prepare patients for examinations, take vital signs, obtain specimens, and administer medications under the supervision of a physician.

Upon completion of the program, students earn a certificate and are eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examination.
