Career OptionsStudents who graduate with an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) can take the national certification exam.
The MLT exam is a board of registry certification examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology and administered by Pearson VUE. The exam is used to determine if an individual has the knowledge necessary to be a competent, entry-level Medical Laboratory Technician.
The exam consists of multiple-choice questions that are related to six main areas:
- Chemistry - 23%
- Hematology- 21%
- Immunology and Immunohematology - 23%
- Microbiology focusing on Bacteriology and Parisitology - 19%
- General Laboratory Knowledge and Procedures - 5%
- Urinalysis - 9%
