Program: Massage Therapy Associate of Applied Science
Therapeutic massage is quickly becoming an important component of health care. Massage therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissue structure of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, and stress; to improve body function and performance; to stimulate or enhance healing and recovery; and to promote health and wellness.
Program Description & Courses
The Massage Therapy Associate of Applied Science degree program provides future massage therapists with almost 1000 hours of instruction in massage and related courses. This exceeds Maryland's certification requirements for practicing massage therapists.
The Massage Therapy Associate of Applied Science degree program prepares students to work as professional massage therapists in chiropractic offices, rehabilitation clinics, long- term care and acute care facilities, health clubs, spas, salons, & private practice.

Specific admissions requirements
To start the program, students must first enroll in MAS 1005, which is offered each fall. This course must be completed with a "C" (75) or better to proceed in the program. This may be a competitive admissions program determined by student : instructor ratios and clinical space available.
Students are required to provide proof of immunization status, a completed health form, and a criminal background check at the student’s expense. Students may be required to provide proof of health insurance and a negative drug screen at the request of agencies and at the student’s expense.
Professional organization resources and certification information
Graduates are eligible to take the massage therapist certification examination offered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and the Maryland Massage Therapy Jurisprudence Examination. The Maryland Board of Chiropractic Examiners approves the program.
