NURSING ASSISTANT

Nursing Assistants are licensed to perform selected nursing skills as routinely delegated by a nurse. The college offers the opportunity to train for three levels of certification - certified nursing assistant, geriatric nursing assistant, and certified medicine aide. Each has its own set of qualifications, licensing requirements and State of Maryland application procedures.

Continuing Education Program: Certified Medicine Aide Update

Program Description & Courses

Registrants successfully complete HTH-5580 with a CMP. This course is required of every CMA within every two-year certification cycle as a condition of maintaining certification. This course is offered every other month at one of the CSM campuses.

Specific admissions requirements

  1. Present current licenses as CNA/GNA/CMA
  2. Verification of compensated employment as GNA in a licensed nursing home for at least 8 hours in the two years immediately preceding the Update, using the form provided by the college
  3. Expiration of CNA/GNA/CMA certification within 90 days of the start date of the update course.
