Professional organization resources and certification information
Graduates of the Associate Degree Program are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). After completing the Nursing Associate of Science degree, they are urged to continue their studies to earn a bachelor of science in nursing. One option is through CSM's partnership with Villa Julie College.
Designated Health Manpower Shortage Program
The Associate Degree Nursing Program at CSM has been designated as a Health Manpower Shortage Program. The Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has determined certain health occupations in the state to be in short supply. The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) has designated educational programs that correspond to these health occupations to be eligible for the Health Manpower Shortage Program. This means that Maryland residents living outside Charles, St. Mary's, and Calvert counties who are entering this program, are eligible for in-county tuition rates. Some restrictions apply. Contact the Admissions Office for more information.
An Alternative
Program: Pre-Nursing Associate of Arts
This program is designed for students who wish to take credits at CSM and then transfer to a baccalaureate program and major in nursing. While earning the associate of arts degree at CSM, students study the sciences and other general education courses required for transfer. Nursing courses are then taken in the junior and senior years after they have transferred to a baccalaureate-nursing program. Students are responsible to confirm program admissions and transfer requirements.
