Program: Pharmacy Technician - Certificate
Pharmacy Technician is a versatile career that requires accuracy, detail, and good communication skills. The Pharmacy Technician typically works in a hospital or community pharmacy. Students gain a working knowledge of procedures for processing, preparing, and distributing pharmaceuticals, devices, and supplies. Non-clinical duties include following established policies and procedures for recording the preparation of bulk, unit dose, and special doses of medications, as well as controlled substances. The job outlook for certified Pharmacy Technician is excellent.

Specific admissions requirements
This may be a competitive admissions program determined by student : instructor ratios and clinical space available. Students are required to provide proof of immunization status, a completed health form, and a criminal background check at the student's expense. Students may be required to provide proof of health insurance and a negative drug screen at the request of agencies and at the student's expense.

That is a preference of each organization, but many make certification a requirement for employment-or may give hiring preference to applicants who are certified over those who are not.
Designated Health Manpower Shortage Program
The Pharmacy Technician program at CSM has been designated as a Health Manpower Shortage program. The Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has determined certain health occupations in the state to be in short supply. The Maryland Higher Education Commission has designated educational programs that correspond to these health occupations to be eligible for the Health Manpower Shortage Program. This means that Maryland residents from outside of Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert counties who are entering this program are eligible for in-county tuition rates. Some restrictions apply. Check with the Admissions Office for more information.
