Physical therapist assistants provide physical therapy services according to the plan of care developed by the physical therapist. They administer direct patient care; teach patients, families, and other health care providers how to perform selected procedures; and provide desired psychological support to patients and families.

Program Description & Courses

This program is sponsored by the Chesapeake Area Consortium for Higher Education (CACHE), which comprises the College of Southern Maryland, Chesapeake College, and Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Students complete their general education requirements at CSM, their professional training requirements at AACC, and their clinical practice in their local service area when possible.

Specific admissions requirements

This is a competitive admissions program.

It is the student’s responsibility to contact the CSM nursing and heath technology advisor to receive the petition packet. Upon completion of the packet, it is the student’s responsibility to deliver the packet to the CSM nursing and health technology advisor. Students are required to provide proof of immunization status, a completed health form, and a criminal background check at the student’s expense. Students may be required to provide proof of health insurance and a negative drug screen at the request of agencies and at the student’s expense.

Professional organization resources and certification information

Graduates are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Examination for certification and licensure in Maryland.
