Guidelines for a Great Time
Kids’ and Teen College want your child to have fun and stay safe. Because college is in an adult environment, our trained staff will supervise your child at all times. Please help your child enjoy our program by following these guidelines.
Flexible Scheduling Makes Life Easy
Kids’
and Teen College offer a scheduling approach that provides working parents
and stay-at-home parents the flexibility they need and want. Several options

Register Early
Registration for Kids’ and Teen College begins on February 13, 2008. Classes fill up fast so register early. Check out our website" www.csmd.edu/kidscollege for the latest class availability. You will be notified if the class is full. In very rare instances, we are forced to cancel classes up to a week before the start date. Should this happen we will make every attempt to place your child in another class or offer you a full refund. To register, complete the registration form at the back of this schedule and submit one form per child with full payment or FACTS registration plan. Registration will not occur unless full payment is received and all five pages of the registration form are complete.
Supervision
Children are supervised all day – during breaks, lunches, changes of class, and class time.
Recommended Ages
To create an appropriate and stimulating learning environment, recommended ages will be adhered to. If your child is not in the specified age range at the time of registration but will be in the specified range prior to the class starting, you will need to contact us on 301-934-7634 for an age exception.
Parent Packets
In
June 2008, parents will receive a parent packet. The parent packet will include
information about pick up and drop off arrangements, campus maps, rules of
the road, and a J&D Hospitality Lunch Plan Form.
Lunch
If your child attends all day, you must supply a lunch. Pack foods that don’t require refrigeration. You may send a beverage or your child may purchase soda or fruit juice from a vending machine. Lunch k Plans are available through J&D Hospitality. A registration form for the Summer Lunch will be included in your parent packet. Summer staff will supervise students during lunch. Students also have short breaks throughout the day.
Food Allergies
It is recommended that students with food allergies bring all food from home only. The College of Southern Maryland will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed, or items one may be exposed to or come in contact with while eating on any college premises.
Student Conduct
Our policy requires disruptive students to leave class. If necessary, we will call a parent to pick up the child immediately. If we ask you not to bring you child back to the class because of disruptive or threatening behavior, you will not receive a tuition refund.
Extended Day – Available at the La Plata Campus ONLY
Children
ages 7 to 12 enrolled in our classes can begin and/or end their day at the
Children’s Learning Center (CLC) located at the LA
PLATA CAMPUS only. Extended day hours are 6:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. and from 4:30
p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students can play games, read books, and perform computer,
art, and science activities. Spaces are limited so register early. After
you register, a CLC application will automatically be mailed to your home.
The application must be completed in accordance with Office of Childcare licensing
requirements. You must submit the completed application to the CLC at least seven days in advance of starting extended care.
A separate, one-time processing fee of $15.00 is collected the first time
you register for an extended care section – this is a one-time only fee. For
more information, contact the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center,
301-934-7871.
Policy for Late Pickup of Children
You must pick up your child when the class ends. If your child is not picked up by 4:45 p.m., an emergency drop-in fee of $30.00 will be charged until 6:00 p.m.; after that it will be an additional $1.00 per minute. This fee must be paid prior to your child returning to camp. CSM reserves the right to request your child be removed from class, if parents are persistently late for pickup. If we ask you not to bring you child back because you are often late to pick up your child, you will not receive a tuition refund.
Supplies
Unless specified in the course description, children will be supplied with all necessary materials to complete class projects.
Quality Instruction
Kids’
and Teen College academic instructors are accredited teachers recruited from
the local public and private schools or are college faculty. For certain subjects
and on rare occasions, Kids’ and Teen College employ subject experts
with experience teaching children.
Note for Students Requiring Medication
If the student enrolling in a Kid’s and Teen College course requires medication, prescribed or otherwise, a medication/distribution form must be signed by the child’s physician and be on file with the Registrar’s Office. Medications will be kept in a locked area unless they are of the type to be carried with the child (i.e., bee sting kit, etc.). Employees of CSM are not permitted to administer medications, and students are expected to determine dosage themselves.
