Students will be introduced to basic computer-aided drafting techniques to create and read engineering drawings. Physical and digital drawing skills will be taught. DFT-5010 AutoCAD Certified User

This is an introductory course in computer-aided drafting. Students will practice 2D drafting concepts and techniques using AutoCAD drawing software. Topics covered include basic 2D object construction, polylines, techniques for editing objects, object properties, using layers, creating orthographic views in multiview drawings, dimensioning and notes, plotting scaled drawings, and creating section views. This course will also prepare students for the AutoCAD Certified User exam. Textbook required.

Learn fundamental solid modeling concepts and techniques to design parts, assemblies, and drawings on sheets using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. Create 2D sketches and transform them into 3D models by applying extrusions, revolves, patterns, shells, lofts, sweeps, fillets and ribs. Learn techniques to dimension models, create engineering drawings, edit geometry, create exploded assemblies, and prepare models for 3-D printing. Textbook required.

DFT-5030 Solidworks II

Learn advanced techniques of solid modeling using Solidworks 3D CAD software. Topics covered include advanced drawing, surface modeling, assembly modeling, advanced part modeling, simple animations and photorealistic renderings, and simulations. Use advanced dimensioning on drawing sheets, create section views, and use basic geometric tolerance techniques. A final project allows students to bring all the skills together in a prototype model or a rendered image to be printed on a 3D printer. Textbook required.

Building information modeling (BIM) software is used by drafters, architects, structural engineers, and contractors to work collaboratively on designs. Autodesk Revit will be used in the model-based process of planning, designing, building, and managing buildings and infrastructure. Create models comprised of intelligent objects that consist of both geometry and data. Become proficient with templates, basic floor plan and basics of the building model. Textbook required.
