A Home Inspector examines residential property and evaluates the condition of the structure, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems and components, electrical system, and appliances.

CSM’s Home Inspection Training TEC-5670 Home Inspection Training meets the requirements for home inspection pre-licensure for the State of Maryland. Students must also pass a test given by the Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) before applying for their license.

It is also recommended students take TEC-9300 Construction Core Skills – General and TEC-7470 Maryland Building Codes although the courses are not required for the license.

TEC-5670 Home Inspection Training

This course meets the requirements for home inspection pre-licensure for the State of Maryland as a provision of law under the Business Occupational and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, ' 16-3A-03(1). The home inspection profession has grown rapidly over the last several years. More homebuyers use home inspectors to evaluate the condition of their prospective purchases. This course covers the basics of home inspection as required to be a licensed home inspector in the State of Maryland. These topics include the following systems: structural, exterior, interior, roofing, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, insulation and ventilation, fireplace and solid burning systems, and heating. Students must also pass a test given by DLLR in addition to successfully completing this class before applying for their license. Textbook required.

TEC-8290 Stationary Engineer Exam Prep, Part 1

This is the first of two courses that provide training for those students preparing to take the third-grade license exam under the Maryland State Board of Examining Engineers.  Review of examination qualifications and basic exam content will be discussed.  Construction and classification, applied mathematics, and instrumentation as they apply to a variety of boilers will be explained.  Boiler operation safety and procedures will be emphasized throughout the training. TEC-7470 Maryland Building Codes

Learn about Maryland's law related to building codes-the Maryland Building Performance Standards (MBPS). Each jurisdiction in Maryland uses the same edition of the same building codes, the international Building Code and the International Residential Code. However, each local jurisdiction in Maryland may modify these codes to suit local conditions. In addition to an overview of MBPS, you will become familiar with codes specific to Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's counties.
