CSM offers continuing education classes for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers.

EMS-5120 ECG Skills for Pre-Hospital Providers

Students will learn basic knowledge and skills needed to perform electrocardiograms (ECG’s); including operating an ECG machine, preparing the patient, placing the leads, and recording the tracings. The course is designed to expand the abilities and skills of the pre-hospital provider. Maryland EMTs, CRTs and Paramedics completing this course will earn up to 15 hours of continuing education and/or refresher credits towards re-certification.

EMS-5130 ECG Analysis for Pre-Hospital Providers

Learn the basic knowledge and techniques necessary to interpret common cardiac arrhythmias, such as sinus, atrial, junctional and ventricular dysrhythmias. Participants will develop skills in reading and analyzing electrocardiograms (ECG) tracings. Maryland CRT’s, EMT’s and Paramedics completing this course will earn up 15 hours of refresher or continuing education credits towards recertification. Textbook required.

HTH-6620 American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP)

Healthcare providers and professionals whose jobs require CPR as a condition of employment are encouraged to attend. Relief of foreign body airway obstruction, rescue breathing, CPR for victims of all ages, and the use of the bag valve mask and automated external defibrillator (AED) will be practiced. The signs of stroke, heart attack, and the prevention of SIDS and childhood injuries will be discussed. Participants successfully completing a written exam and a skills demonstration will earn an AHA card that is current for two years. Textbook required.

According to AHA guidelines: Participants must bring the current edition of the appropriate textbook to class and be present for 100% of the class.
