Personal Counseling Services

Counselor meets with a student

Your time at college can be a positive and rewarding experience. However, it can also be a time of stress and challenge. To make the most of your college experience, CSM Counseling Services are available at all campuses to help you deal with your stresses and challenges. Counseling is confidential and free of charge to all currently enrolled CSM students.

Counseling at CSM is short-term with eight sessions per semester. It is a wellness approach to ensure mental health and well being as well as confidence in academic achievement. Services include:

  • Crisis intervention
  • Individual personal counseling
  • Support groups
  • Couples counseling
  • Faculty and staff consultation
  • Referrals to other resources within the college or in the community

CSM will be smoke-, tobacco-, and vape-free January 1, 2017

The College of Southern Maryland is committed to providing and maintaining an environment for faculty, staff, and students that is drug-free, healthy, safe, and secure. Faculty, staff, and students are expected and required to report each day in an appropriate mental and physical condition, free of any illegal drugs and alcohol and capable of fulfilling their daily duties.

CSM is smoke-, tobacco-, and vape-free as of January 1, 2017.

Smoking Cessation Resources

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

  • Call toll-free 888-456-1324: The college’s Employee Assistance Program through Ceridian LifeWorks provides free, confidential help with personal and work-related issues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call LifeWorks to speak to a consultant or visit their website at www.lifeworks.com (User ID=csmd; Password=lifeworks) for additional information and assistance. Free Smoking Cessation Classes

  • Charles County Health Department offers free 10-week sessions in April/September. Pre-registration required. Call 301-609-6932 for class details or to request a Smoking Quit Packet.
  • Mary's County Health Department offers free 8-week one-hour sessions on Tuesdays along with free medication to help you quit. Call 301-475-4330 or 301-475-4074 to enroll in class. (Upcoming Tuesday Sessions: March 14 - May 2)
  • Calvert County Health Department offers free comprehensive 8-week program. Call 410-535-5400, ext. 359 for details and registration.
