Group Study Rooms Policy & Procedures

About Group Study Rooms

  • Group Study Rooms are for the exclusive use of current (registered for a course) College of Southern Maryland students for course related purposes only.
  • Study rooms are intended for groups of at least two or more. Space for singular study is available in the library.
  • CSM arranged Tutoring takes precedence over any reservation.
  • Group Study Rooms must be reserved before use. Advance or walk-in reservations are acceptable and can be made at the Student Success Center Front Office at LR 120, by email at studentsuccess@csmd.edu.
  • Group Study Rooms may not be used for social gathering, clubs, organizations, staff, or departmental business meetings or for instructor and faculty office hours.
  • Group Study Rooms are always kept locked. A CSM Library or Student Success Center staff member can assist students with reservations in opening a room.
  • Study rooms are available for College of Southern Maryland students on a first come, first served basis; however, group users without reservations must leave when requested by a group with proof of a valid reservation, i.e., confirmation of the reservation by the Library or Student Success Center.

Policies For Student Use

  • The College of Southern Maryland is not responsible for personal possessions abandoned in rooms.
  • Leaving unattended items in an unscheduled room does not constitute exclusive use and others may use rooms even if unattended items are left behind.
  • Furniture (chairs, tables, shelving, boards, etc.), markers, erasers, and cleaning materials should not be removed from the rooms.
  • No food, uncovered drinks, drugs, or alcohol of any kind may be used in the rooms.
  • There should be no gratuitous noise, unruly conduct, musical instruments or loud music played in the rooms.
  • Violation of any policy will result in students being ejected from the study room and excluded from further access for the remainder of the semester.
  • Report any issues, scheduling disputes or abuse to the Library Circulation Desk or Student Success Center at LR 120.
  • If after 20 minutes a group does not show up, CSM staff can cancel the reservation and the room may be given to another group.

Room Reservations

  • Bookings may be made up to 2 weeks in advance by phone at (301)934-7657, email at studentsuccess@csmd.edu, or the Student Success Center at LR 120. The Library Circulation Desk can handle day of reservations.
  • Each student can make two, one-hour reservations per day per room.
  • If plans change, a student should cancel his/her reservation.
  • Reservations have priority. If a study room is in use without prior arrangements by a group or singular occupant, occupants must leave when asked by a group with a valid reservation. Study rooms are available (subject to the policies above) on a first come, first served basis.
  • Anyone who is using the room without a reservation should be required to complete a reservation or be asked to leave. No one is allowed to use the rooms without a reservation.
