Transfer Checklist

This guide will serve as a general guideline for students transferring to a four-year institution. If you plan to transfer prior without a degree, you should see an advisor to obtain additional assistance.

Prior to completing 30 transferable credits

  • Make a preliminary career choice.
  • Begin research to select major or career by visiting Career Services.
  • Complete a variety of exploratory courses in your area(s) of interest.
  • Consult with an advisor before registering.
  • Select a major program of study.
  • Select at least three universities to which you will apply.
  • Complete any general education courses.
  • Attend CSM‘s Transfer Fairs in the fall and spring semesters.
  • Contact perspective universities and obtain preview books, catalogs and admissions/financial aid applications.
  • Obtain deadlines for submission of admission application and financial aid for each institution.
  • Communicate with admissions representative to discuss transfer admission policies and transferring credits from CSM.
  • Attend Transfer workshops.
  • Meet with transfer coordinator or program advisor.

After completing 30 transferable credits

  • Submit application for admissions and fee. Photocopy before sending. Request that official transcript from CSM and other schools attended to be sent to university.
  • Submit financial aid forms. FAFSA’s deadline is usually March 1 for the following academic year. Photocopy before sending.
  • Submit housing application. Photocopy before sending.
  • Petition to graduate from CSM and obtain your degree by filing a graduation application with the Advisement and Career Services, if applicable.
  • Schedule on-campus visits with university representatives. Attend orientation/welcome/advising days at your transfer university.
