Course Description

SPA-1053
Culture of Spain

3 Credits

Tour group from previous tripCSM’s travel study in Spain program is based in the vibrant and historical city Valencia, Spain’s third largest city, located on the sunny Mediterranean coast, the perfect setting for the study of language and culture.

Students will study Spanish and the culture of Spain at the highly reputed Centro Internacional de Lengua y Cultura Españolas (CILCE), founded in 1969.

At the heart of Valencia’s ancient city center, Cilce is centrally located 5 minutes away from the commercial center and at a comfortable walking distance from several museums, historical monuments, and cafes. Hop on the bus and you’ll be on the beach in less than 25 minutes. Valencia has one of the largest sand beaches in Europe, and sunny weather all year round.

Valencia has become a cultural center in Europe with a blend of modern amenities amid ancient Roman remains. Students will enjoy access to cinemas, concerts, pubs, flamenco performances, world-class museums, the famous Central Market, and world-famous local cuisine, such as paella.

SPANISH COURSES and Activities

Students will study language and culture in the morning at Cilce. Language placement is based on each students’ ability. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required. Cultural activities will include dance and cooking lessons.

In the afternoon, students will attend lectures, film screenings, discussions and trips to special destinations, (e.g., Valencia’s Institute of Modern Art) led by Professors Fernandez and McManus.

LODGING: Apartments and studios
