Volunteer Southern Maryland

Fostering change through volunteerism to build a stronger community.
ABOUT US
Mission:
Fostering change through volunteerism to build a stronger community.
What we do:
Volunteer Southern Maryland serves as a one-stop shop for volunteerism that connects volunteers with opportunities to serve, as well as local non-profit agencies in need of volunteers. We do this through a free interactive online database of local nonprofit agencies and volunteer opportunities that is accessible to anyone at anytime. In addition, Volunteer Southern Maryland sponsors monthly events, activities, and drives to meet local community needs.
Who we are:
Volunteer Southern Maryland is a community resource housed at the College of Southern Maryland. Volunteer Southern Maryland (VSMD) proudly opened its doors on July 17, 2002 after one year of planning. It started when a group of community members began meeting to assess the need for a volunteer center. Today VSMD is placing volunteers in various opportunities throughout the community.
The primary role of VSMD is to recruit and mobilize citizens to meet local needs through volunteer service. VSMD provides consultation, training and technical assistance to businesses and nonprofit organizations that work with volunteers to build their skills in recruiting, managing, retaining and recognizing volunteers.
Our four main goals are:
- Connect people with opportunities to serve
- Build the capacity for effective local volunteering
- Promote volunteering
- Participate in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers to meet local community needs
