Students talking at campus

Students who are under the age of 16 and who have completed at least the 7th grade may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.  Students will be considered for such admission if they demonstrate the ability to profit from instruction based on evidence of gifted and talented status as defined by their local school system or through other evidence of exceptional academic or fine arts talent.

3. Testing

Take the CSM Placement Test or submit proof of appropriate ACT/SAT scores, and/or have a Prior Credit Evaluation.

Option 1: Placement Test

Schedule a CSM placement test with on of CSM's Testing Centers:

  • La Plata Campus: Walk-in (no scheduling necessary)
  • Leonardtown Campus: 240-725-5340
  • Prince Frederick Campus: 443-550-6040

Note: It is your responsibility to schedule the placement test and you must bring a photo ID to the Testing Center on the test date.  You must place at college level in English and Reading to be admitted into the Gifted and Talented Program.  You can take the placement test up to two times while you are in high school.

For information on the test, scheduling your test and how to prepare, please visit our Testing Center.

Option 2:

Submit proof of acceptable ACT or SAT scores in order to waive the placement test

  • Submit SAT score of 530 or higher in Math (for placement into MTH-1010)
  • Submit SAT score of 570 or higher in Math (for placement into MTH-1115, MTH-1120, MTH-1130, MTH-1150, or MTH-2300)
  • Submit SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing Test score of 480 or higher
  • Submit ACT scores of 21 or higher in English and/or Reading and/or Math.

Please note that some students who wish to take a higher level math course should still take the math portion of the CSM Placement Test

It is the responsibility of the student to provide acceptable SAT or ACT scores to the Testing Center.

If the SAT or ACT score in one area is below the acceptable score, you must take the CSM's placement test in that area and place at the acceptable level to be considered for admission into the program.

If you would like to take any math courses above the College Mathematics (MTH1100) you must take the Math portion of CSM's placement test.
