Help a Hawk Fund
HELP A HAWK. CSM Foundation is here to help.
Gifts of every size, contributed by people like you, will help change the lives of CSM students. Your support will assist potential leaders and CSM students working toward degrees, certificates, or the mastery of a new skill set.
The Help A Hawk Fund provides aid to CSM students experiencing financial hard ship and began in March 2020 as the Student Emergency Fund in response to the negative impact of COVID-19. Your generous contribution will provide:
- Direct relief to students in the form of Hawk Feeder care packages;
- Tuition assistance; and
- Technology and educational supplies
No student should have to choose between affording to live and affording to learn. Join us in fighting COVID-19 by lessening its adverse impact on our students. Each and every dollar helps.
CSM PROUD to be here for YOU. Our Impact to Date:
The College of Southern Maryland continues to learn and work in a remote and online environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday, March 19, just four days into this remote/virtual learning environment for our students, CSM launched a student survey to identify their concerns resulting from the COVID-19 and to provide support.
The responses came quickly. We heard from more than 500 students, many who had already been hit hard by the effects of the COVID-19. More than 65% of our students attend CSM part time, work, and care for family members, and 34 percent receive financial aid and scholarships. Each of these students received a personal phone call from one of our Outreach Team staff members with the clear message, "We are here for you," as we checked in and offered support and resource information.
The college and CSM Foundation mobilized to help these students in need.
-
CSM created a laptop loaner program to help those students who did not have a laptop. We found ways to deliver the laptops safely. - CSM launched a student resource page – CSM Ready – with many college-based and community-based resources to help with the current challenges.
- CSM Foundation launched CSM Hawks Student Emergency Fund to raise funds to meet immediate needs of students impacted by COVID-19 (food and other incidentals, technology, transportation, and tuition assistance).
- To date, the CSM Foundation has provided more than $38,000 in student emergency aid including funds for 209 students who identified food insecurity as an issue.
- To date, over 100 alumni, employees and friends have raised more than $50,000 online and through social media.
- To date, we have raised more than $50,000 for scholarships. Scholarships will be more important than ever as many of our students have lost their jobs and income.

Other ways CSM is helping the community:
-
Donated CSM’s PPE and medical supplies to local hospitals, totaling more than$30,000 - Collaborated with the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) to help develop a process that identified three levels of care that CSM nursing students – and college nursing students from around the state – could register for in order to assist in the COVID-19 response. The ‘Nursing Clinical Extern Portal’ has now been in place for several weeks and it complements the volunteers who are staffing the Maryland Medical Reserve Corps.
