Transfer Options

If you’re a student planning to transfer to a four-year institution, you can save thousands of dollars by completing your general education courses at CSM.

CSM offers a number of transfer options, including the General Studies Transfer Certificate.

Earn your General Studies Transfer Certificate by January

CSM’s General Studies Transfer Certificate is designed for students
who intend to transfer to a four-year college or university. Completion of this certificate also allows students with the appropriate grade point average to apply for transfer to most four-year institutions based solely on their college course work. This program is fully available online.

This program is ideal if either of the following apply to you:

  1. You already have dual enrollment credit that can be applied to fulfill requirements of the Transfer Certificate.

  2. You’re motivated to earn 31 credit hours this summer and fall that will transfer to all public colleges and universities in Maryland, as well as to many of our out-of-state and private transfer partners.

Advantages of this Certificate include:

  1. Saving tuition dollars to complete quality education
closer to home

  2. Fulfilling many of the general education requirements of your transfer
institution before you even arrive

  3. Completing the program online, with many classes offering
real-time video instruction
  4. Working with an experienced CSM advisor to determine which classes
are appropriate for you and your goals

If you don’t complete all 31 hours of coursework by the end of the Fall Semester, you still have the option of finishing up during CSM’s Winter Term. Regardless, the credits you have earned go with you if you plan to transfer in January.

In addition, all the credits in this certificate apply to the College of Southern Maryland’s Arts and Sciences AA Degree and to most of the college’s associate degree programs. This means that students who decide to remain at the College of Southern Maryland will have many of their core requirements completed and may obtain both a certificate and a degree.
